Anton Corbijn
Starting out as a Dutch photographer he diverted to creating music videos in 1983 when he made his first for Palais Schaumburg with their single hockey ( a small indie rock dutch band ). The success of the band in Germany could be considered to be because of their music video. The style of music video was as a breakthrough due to previously inde music videos would contain stock videos and sometimes the band playing live. This lead to Anton gaining offers from many other well established music acts such as echo and the bunnymen, Depeche Mode, U2 , Metallica , The red hot chili peppers, Nirvana and most recently coldplay's Viva la Vida.
But He's most well known for his work with Joy division on Atmosphere. This was the video in which was released after the front man, Ian Curtis's, passing. The music video became a cult classic due to its thought provoking monks walking around the Beach. This spooky video became a classic and was believed to represent the emptiness left by Ian's death by the black and white spooky monks.
